About the lecture
In January 2005 a bright flash was detected in the nucleus of the merging galaxy Arp 299-B, which was considered a supernova explosion. However, ten years of observations at different wavelengths have shown the luminous region lengthening and expanding, leading to the conclusion that it is a jet of material ejected by the galaxy's central supermassive black hole after tearing a star apart.
