About the lecture

Black holes are extreme objects, so much so that they hide regions inside them where our understanding of the very structure of reality breaks down, so that fundamental concepts such as space and time stop making sense. Understanding how to resolve breaks in spacetime is one of the most fascinating open problems in theoretical physics.

Thanks to recent advances, what over half a century ago was an abstract, philosophical question has developed into a research field driven by practical, concrete developments.

In this talk we will go through what is known and unknown about black hole plumbing, understood as the set of techniques for fixing breaks in spacetime.
