About the lecture

Solar eclipses have been one of the most striking natural experiences for humanity. The momentary disappearance of the Sun as a source of life, order and stability has aroused fascination, fear and wonder in practically every culture. That is why eclipses have not only been an object of astronomical study but have also become powerful artistic, religious and political symbols.

This talk offers a tour of different artistic expressions inspired by solar eclipses throughout history, from Antiquity to contemporary art. Across different periods and cultures, we will explore how this celestial phenomenon has been interpreted, represented and transformed into images and works of art that reflect the deep fascination eclipses have held for humanity.
